Build WebUI Studio

Side-by-side Installation, Issues, and Quick Fixes

Intersoft’s WebUI Studio is designed to let you work uninterruptedly even when you have multiple versions installed, for example: installing WebUI Studio 2008 R2 and WebUI Studio 2009 R1 in the same machine. This guide will list all issues and the quick fixes.

  1. Installation.

Since 2009 R1, the installer will automatically create 3 sub-folders inside “Intersoft Solutions” folder, depending on the selected WebUI Studio version.

The most important thing here is to properly set the CommonLibrary folder as this is the default scripts and resources path for SmartWebResources-disabled applications.

During the installation, CommonLibrary is mapped automatically as a virtual directory. Later, when you install another version, the setup will automatically detect the existing CommonLibrary setting in your local IIS and prompt you to replace it.

  2. CommonLibrary setting.

In this case, we are using the 2008 R2 and 2009 R1 versions. The physical path of 2008 R2’s CommonLibrary is different from the 2009 R1’s. CommonLibrary is the default path for all components’ scripts and images. The easiest thing to fix this is to simply merge these two CommonLibrarys.

  3. Assembly conflict.

Dragging a 2008 R2 control which has stepped- up version in the 2009 R1 version will sometime cause an error in Visual Studio as well as in runtime mode. This is because Visual Studio mistakenly adds the wrong assembly to the bin folder.

For example: you drag WebGrid 6 to VS’s designer. It sometimes will notify you that a newer version of the component is available and prompt you to update. When you click yes, it will update the assembly to WebGrid 7.

To fix this, simply remove the WebGrid’s assembly and manually add the correct version. You can check for version in the “About” box. Simply right click on the control and select “About”.

  4. Uninstallation.

Uninstalling one version will affect others, so it’s extremely important to uninstall all versions at once. Please remember to remove the license key before proceeding.
